Bridging To Our Future

Our historic King George VI Lift Bridge was built in 1938 and is scheduled to begin a complete refurbishment beginning in March of 2020.  The project should last about 14 months and will be implemented by Elgin County.  All of the merchants in the Port Stanley BIA, The Municipality of Central Elgin and Elgin County have been working hard together to make the time of construction as painless as possible for both visitors and residents.  Both sides of Port Stanley can be accessed via the bridge on Warren Street for the duration of the project and temporary stop lights will be at Warren and Colborne and Warren and Carlow to keep traffic moving.  At least one side of the bridge will remain open to allow boat traffic access to all marinas.  While traffic will be re-routed during the project, we are excited that our incredible historic lift bridge is being preserved and refurbished so it can be enjoyed by many future generations.
